The hospital-based WOCN serves as the clinical resource and consultant for the acute and rehabilitative care of patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems (i.e.: complex nonhealing wounds, ostomy, fistulas, tube complications, pressure wounds). The WOCN conducts administrative duties, including staff education on evidence based wound ostomy continence management, data collection, research, and participation with division-level activities. Direct patient care duties:
* Performs nursing evaluation to identify wound, ostomy, and continence needs upon initial visit for all patients * Performs and documents comprehensive wound, ostomy, and continence focused assessment on each visit * Documents all nursing interventions, nursing care, medications/dressings utilized, pertinent findings, complications and any other medical information of nursing related care on all patients * Serves as a clinical resource to all departments throughout MCDH * Educates patients and their families on wound, ostomy, and continence needs and management * Provides care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients * Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

* BSN required within 24 months of hired into RN position * Successful graduate of a WOCN-Accredited Professional Education Program * Two years medical/surgical nursing experience preferred * Previous wound and/or ostomy experience preferred
* Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact * Current American Heart Association BLS Provider * Current certification by the Wound, Ostomy, Continence NursingCertification Board (WOCNCB) * WOCNC National Specialty Certification Required
